MADAGASCAR

Madagascar is the first country where RTM started its activity back in 1973. The volunteers and religious members of the team of the Diocese of Reggio Emilia-Guastalla, who later founded RTM, had already arrived on the red island in 1967, and immediately tried to respond to the basic needs of the inhabitants. Over the course of over 45 years, RTM has structured and strengthened its activities in multiple sectors: literacy, agriculture, crafts, education, healthcare, and food safety. The support of numerous donors (institutional and private) and the commitment of over 200 medium- and long-term volunteers have made it possible to intervene in different territories and to the benefit of an increasing number of inhabitants. Today RTM is present in Madagascar with two operational offices and the main areas of intervention concern education and healthcare on a community basis.
